Dear Friends, as you have seen by now, Hurricane Helene made landfall yesterday with sustained winds of 140 mph causing significant flooding and historical storm surge from the southwest to northwest areas of the state.
We have received damage reports of varying levels from at least 50 churches in our conference and we are still assessing the full impact of the storm. Click here to view a shareable video message from Bishop Tom Berlin on The Florida Conference disaster response efforts.
Good news: You can help!
Here are five ways you can help those in need across the state as we begin to rebuild.
- Pray. Continue to lift the impacted in prayer.
- Give online to the United Methodist Church hurricane disaster relief fund. 100% of donations to the Disaster Recovery Support Fund of The Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church goes to support the collaborative work of our Conference, districts, and local churches as we respond to disasters including hurricanes, tropical storms, flooding events, and more.
- Collect cleaning kits. Here is a list of disaster relief supplies needed and an instructional video on how to assemble a cleaning kit. For drop off locations call: 561-622-5278
- Please note: Try not to select the cheapest supplies that won’t hold up in the hard work of cleaning up after a flood. Consider what you would use to clean up your house if it had been flooded or damaged. Examples of high quality supplies include: heavy duty trash bags, sturdy brushes, and good quality gloves. Here is the complete list of disaster relief supplies.
- Call the Disaster Recovery call center. Dial 855-228-3862 to volunteer or share post-storm community needs.
- Share this information in your churches and communities. Click here for a graphic that you can download and share.
Thank you for your continued support. We are grateful for the power of our United Methodist connection!
