Walking with God: Climbing Toward His Heart

Mike Zdorowdelivers a message at The Gathering Place Church in Palm Beach Gardens

A Prayer of Dependence

Jesus, you are the faithful One who hears our cries and holds us close. In moments of pain and uncertainty, when we feel at the end of our rope, we unite our hearts and lift our burdens to you. We praise you in the storm and in the valley, trusting that nothing in this world can ever snatch us from your loving hands.

Knowing God Versus Knowing About God

We live in an age of information—podcasts, apps, endless data about God. But true faith isn’t about collecting facts; it’s about walking with God until we understand the beats of his heart. When we pray, “Lord, teach me your heart,” we invite him to transform our perspective, anchoring us in his love and compassion.

The Transformative Mountain Climb

Here in Florida, mountains feel foreign—we chase peaks in the Carolinas or Colorado to catch a glimpse of the world from above. Yet the summit is only part of the story. It’s the climb that stretches us, reveals our weakness, and refines our faith. By the time we reach the top, we are not the same people who began the ascent.

Abraham on Mount Moriah

Abraham’s journey to Mount Moriah didn’t begin on that mountain—it began 25 years earlier, the day God called him to leave the familiar. Over those years, Abraham learned about God’s promises and compassion. Then came this test:

Genesis 22:1-2
“After these things, God tested Abraham. He said, ‘Abraham!’ and he replied, ‘Here I am.’ Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and offer him as a burnt offering on the mountain I will show you.’”

This story can make us uneasy. Why would God ask for Isaac? Why no explanation? Why doesn’t God intervene sooner? These questions invite us to lean into the climb rather than rush to a neat summit.

Embracing the Climb with Courage

You may not see the summit of your journey yet, but each step with God is reshaping your heart. Like Abraham, you are being prepared for whatever lies ahead. Embrace the climb, trust his loving purpose, and know that as you reach for him, he is gently guiding every footstep.
